During my Home Economics course in the seventh grade, I fell in love with sewing. That Christmas, my parents gave me a sewing machine. At the time I would get frustrated with my lack of skills on advanced garments. I gave up for many years, but patience and practice finally worked in my favor.
I taught myself to loom knit in 2011, but I was unable to create many of the items I liked. In 2015, I completed my first project using knitting needles. I immediately gave away my knitting looms and never looked back. Six months later, I completed my second project…a raglan cardigan.
In 2019 I was the recipient of a horrible haircut. My hair was chopped above my ears, and my bangs were constantly in my eyes. I started wearing headbands, but there were not many to my liking. I decided to buy some fabric and make my own. Surprisingly my headbands were a hit at the hospital where I worked, and it made me feel good to see people wearing items I made. Once my hair finally grew back, I started making scrunchies.
During my breaks at work, I would knit small items like headbands and scarves. One day a sweet nurse asked me if I would be willing to make some Christmas gifts for her family. I was so nervous, but she had faith in me and my work. I was over the moon when she told me how much her family loved their presents. I will always appreciate her and give her all the credit for pushing me to start my own business.
